Judge Edgerton graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1927, and earned degrees from Whitman College and Gonzaga University. He was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1936 and maintained a law practice until 1949. In that same year he was appointed Superior Court Judge, a position he held until 1972, when he was appointed state Court of Appeals Judge by Governor Daniel Evans. On September 5, 1858, U.S. Army soldiers under Colonel George Wright (1803-1865) defeated Native Americans at the Battle of Spokane Plains. The engagement followed a skirmish four days before with members of the Spokane, Palouse, Yakama, and Coeur d'Alene tribes at Four Lakes.
